Step 1: Upload adminer to server

Download adminer file by this link http://miracles.vn/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/dlt-adminer-4.6.2-mysql-en.zip then upload to your server.

Step 2: Login to adminer

You can use your database connection to access database.

If you use Magento 1, the database connection located on /app/etc/local.xml

If you use WordPress, the database connection located on wp-config.php

Step 3: Choose output type

You should choose output = gzip to compress backup file.

If you dont choose this, the database maybe very large. Let see the file size with and without gzip:

As you can see, if you dont choose gzip, the file size = 3GB but with gzip, file size only 400MB.

And note that the Format should be SQL

Step 4: Uncheck data from unnecessary table

Each CMS will have some index/log table, we dont need to get that table content.

If we dont get content from log/index table, the backup size will be smaller.

In this example:

You can see, we can save from 400MB to 63MB only (gzip)

or 3GB to 800MB (sql)

If you are using Magento 1, you can uncheck those tables below:

log_customer
log_visitor
log_visitor_info
log_url
log_url_info
log_quote
report_viewed_product_index
report_compared_product_index
report_event
catalog_compare_item

If you use Magento 2, you can uncheck those tables below:

report_event
report_viewed_product_index
report_compared_product_index
customer_visitor

Step 5: Export
